There is a clear link between the lyrics and the visuals because there is a single mum struggling the provide for her son as said in the lyrics. Also it says 'she works the nights by the water' and the location of the music video is by the sea.
Again the music and visuals link through crosscutting and various other cinematography. The instruments played in the soundtrack are present in the video too. For example there is a cello. As the sound track end the camera zooms out drawing the video to a close.
The genre is showed by the fact that its a pop song. Pop music is usually associated with dancing ,in this case it is done by the artists them self.
You could say that the single mum is objectified but she has no choice in the matter so only the men benefit.
The star image isn't as strong in this video because the do mime and dance but the video as a whole is more narrative based.
