There isn't that much connection between the lyrics and video but there are a few parts where it loosely links. For example when Rihanna sings 'lighting' it flashes mimicking the lighting strikes.
The only way that the music and visuals link is through the beat. The lights flash faster as the beat begins to build giving more effect to the viewers.
The genre of electronic dance is shown through visuals because of the flashing strobe lights and flickering picture. The clothing chosen suits the genre because its casual.
Rihanna is shown as the 'star image' through many close ups and performance element in the music video.
